Ruben Vargas is a well-known and highly respected musician, instructor, director, and performer in Laredo, Texas. With years of experience across mariachi, jazz, piano, and other musical styles, he has become a trusted name in local live music — bringing presence and polish to brunches, private events, restaurants, and cultural celebrations throughout the city.
He has performed at distinguished local venues and events including Casa de Azul, the DoubleTree by Hilton, Laredo Country Club Jazz Night, and La Tapiz Restaurant.
Beyond the stage, Ruben is a dedicated educator and community leader. As director of the Laredo Community College Mariachi Palomino, he has mentored a generation of students in traditional Mexican folk music — including boleros, huapangos, and other timeless styles — preserving the tradition while shaping the next wave of musicians.
His instrumental command spans vihuela, guitarrón, violin, and piano, blending mariachi authenticity with the versatility of a seasoned jazz performer.
